Monday 12/6 - class assignment.
India’s population is around 1,173,108,019. This could be the reason there are so many poor people living in unhealthy conditions. Some of the poorest people are living in places called shantytowns. In the movie Slum dog Millionaire it shows how many kids are growing up washing themselves and their items in dirty, used water. The water has trash floating around in it and yet the kids still play. This shows how use they are to the unhealthy ways they live.
The population in a shantytown is about 16,500 people per square mile. This is a rather dense population living under the poor conditions. In about twenty years the population grew by 18% This is a rather large increase, about sixty percent of Mumbai’s population lives in the slum. That is an estimated 7 million people.
Bollywood is India’s entertainment capital. Bollywood has produced many movies over the years. Each year there are approx. 2,000 movies being released. A majority of the movies being produced in India are Musicals or have some singing in them. Many of the citizens want to live in Bollywood one day and be a part of the movie making business, just like in the United States.

"God Grew Tired of Us"
Today we finished the movie God Grew Tired of Us. My favorite part of the movie was when John's mom and sister were reunited with him. It was funny how his mom was skipping and singing in the airport. I felt that this movie really shows people how life in Sudan is and how we should be thankful for what we have.

God Grew Tired of us (Movie)
Yesterday in class we watched how the men were doings after two years. One of the men (daniel?) found out his family was still alive. Heis now working hard to send money over to them to help cloth, feed, and shelter them. Another man (John?) started college. He wanted to learn moreso he could get better jobs. Two years after theycame from Kenya I believe that they have made real progress. Atleast they know not to eat the butter or jelly.

We are all sprinkles on the great donut of life ( Movie Definitions)
In-Migration- Is when a person moves to a country he or she is not familar with.
Out- Migration- To leave a community in order to settle in another.
Forced migration- The movement of a person away from their home by force. ( Usually because of violence and fear)
Net internal migration - Is when a person crosses a state boundry and stay in the host state for a minimum length of time. (number of people who have made their way into another country).
Movers from abroad- is when someone moves from another country.
Internally displaced person (IDP) - Is a person who is forced to flee their country.
The war in Sudan:
It was started shortly after their independance from Britian.(1983) Many lives were lost from people killing one another. Sudan was quickly becoming a war zone. The guys were often killed and their women raped. Many children were rounded up into huts, that would be set on fire. Although many people have made it to refugee camps, many have been injured or murdered on the way to the refugee camps. Many people still go to bed hungry and need our help throughout the world. Their are two different religions in Africa. Muslims and African Christians. Muslims live in the North and African Christians in the South.
Today in class we watched how the men from Kenya were doing in America. So far some of them don't like how they are treated. For example, they were told not to go places in groups because it scared people. You can not also ask or talk to a random stranger. They also don't understand how to cook or eat proper meals. It is difficult for them to adapt to our style of life. Missing their friends has also been a huge problem. Many of the men feel bad that they are in America and miss their freiends at home.Although they are learning about jobs and their schedule I can imagine how difficult this must be for them.

2) Why couldn’t they stay in Ethiopia? - They couldn't stay in Ethiopia because its goverment was taken over. They ha no choice but to move.
3) What was life like in the refugee camp?

Ancestor History
My mom, Tina Graziano was born on November 13th, 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland. Her Mom, Thelma Graziano was also born in Baltimore on October 28th, 1942. Frank Graziano (Thelma Graziano’s husband) was born on March 1st, 1940 in Baltimore Maryland. Frank’s mother and father, Angelina and Jack Graziano were also born in Baltimore, Maryland. Angelina’s mother, also named Angelina (Garbo) was born in Cefalo, Sicily. Angelina Graziano’s father, Frank Garbo was born in Cefalo, Sicily as well. Jack Graziano’s parents, Maria and Alfredo were born in Naples, Italy. Thelma Graziano’s parents, Laura and Samuel Wade were both born in Baltimore, Maryland. Laura’s mother Mary Hoffman and her father George Hoffman were both born in Baltimore as well. Samuel Wade’s parents, Samuel and Harriett Wade were both born in Ireland. This is my mom’s side of the family.
My father, Daniel Carson was born June 20th, 1966. His father, Robert Carson was born December 17th. Robert Carson’s parents were Omer and Ella Hamilton. Omer was originally from Ireland. He moved to Illinois with his family and then later on moved to Selma, California. Ella (Omer’s wife) was also a decedent from Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of treasure. If I could live anywhere...
If I could live anywhere in the world, one of the places I would live in is Australia. I would live here because of how beautiful the country is. I would love to go see the Outback and go on camping trips. I would also be interested in their lifestyle and how they live. Another reason I want to go to Australia is because they speak English. If I went to France I feel that I would have trouble picking up their language. If I were to move to Australia I would miss my friends and family. I feel that Facebook or Skype would not help me. I would always be thinking of them and wondering how they are doing. A good thing about me moving to Australia is so that I can learn about their culture. I have always wanted to go to another country and learn different things. I think if I moved to Australia I would miss my family and would have to move back to Maryland.
Another place I would move to is Italy. I have always been interested in the Italian Lifestyle and how they live near so many famous places and statues. For me, I feel that if I moved there it would be a blessing to see where my ancestors lived. A pull factor for living there would just be in general all the things I would get to experience. The push factor is once again my friends and family. I would miss them and feel that I would be too far away. If an emergency happened I want to be close so that I can help and comfort my family. I would love to learn Italian one day and visit Italy. I feel that it would be a great experience and I would learn so much.

Population
Over 6.8 Billion people in the world. The population is increasing by 80 million per year.
90 % of the population growth takes place in the developing countries such as Africa, South & East Aisa, and Latin America.
Women are expected to live longer than men because men tend to do dangerous & harder work.
RNI ( Rate of natural increase)
- Produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate then dividing it by 10
-this gives us the annual natural growth rate
( Dont forget about immigrants & Emmigrants)
Net migration Rate- the difference between the # of years persons entering & leaving a country during a year
Entering the country = immigration
exiting the country = emmigration
Push & Pull forces-
Push - things that make you want to leave a country
pull- things that make you want to come to a country
Push examples-
To keep the population the same the TFR must be 2.1

Did you Know?
It took 2 years for FaceBook to reach 50 million subscribers. Instead of getting work or homework most people are on Facebook. It's unbelivable how Facebook grew in numbers over a short amount of time.
Another thing is that in a few years China will have more English speaking people than the United States. This means that Americans' will loose their jobs and will be replaced with people who will work for less money.
